Whatnot fees, explained

How much does Whatnot charge sellers?

Since September 21, 2026, Whatnot's US commission depends on your sales over the previous four weeks: 8% under $15,000, then 7% at $15,000, 6.5% at $35,000, 5.5% at $50,000, 5% at $100,000 and 4.5% at $250,000, with custom rates as low as 3% for the biggest sellers. Commission is charged on the item price, and rates can vary by category. Payment processing is 2.9% + $0.30 per order. At 8%, a $40 card with $5 shipping and 7% sales tax costs $3.20 commission and $1.69 processing, so Whatnot takes $4.89. Choose your sales level under Whatnot fee rates used below.

Does the processing fee include shipping and tax?

Yes. The commission is charged on the item price only, but the 2.9% + $0.30 processing fee is charged on the whole order: item price, the shipping the buyer pays and sales tax. Many simple calculators miss this. GavelMath includes it.

Who pays for shipping on Whatnot?

Usually the buyer pays shipping, and it covers the prepaid label, so it isn't part of your payout. You only pay shipping yourself when you offer free or discounted shipping. Enter that amount under Shipping you cover.

What's the lowest price I can sell an item for?

Your break-even price is the sale price where Whatnot fees, supplies and what you paid add up to exactly the sale price, leaving $0 profit. For an item that cost you $18, it's $21.59. Use the Break-even price calculator to set a safe starting bid.

How much should I pay for a lot?

Work backward from what each item will sell for. The Max buy price calculator takes the expected sale price, the number of items and the margin you want, and tells you the most you can pay for the whole lot. Fifty items that sell for $12 each are worth up to $263.63 at a 35% margin.

Is GavelMath free?

Yes. The profit, break-even and max buy calculators are free with no sign-up, and the show tracker is free for up to 25 items. Pro is $9 a month or $90 a year for unlimited show tracking, a yearly summary, full supplier-list checks and CSV export. Early subscribers keep that founding member price for as long as they stay subscribed.
